Before it becomes an essay
A conversation about the future of work
I spend a lot of time interviewing other people for The Collective Code. This week, the tables are turned. So if you've ever wondered what lives inside my head before it gets edited into a Substack essay... this is probably it.
I recently had a conversation with excellent human Angela Davies, for her excellent Mind the Grit podcast.
A little bit about Ange… we first met remotely, introduced by a mutual friend who had an inkling we would get on. We did in fact (get on, that is), and I was delighted to be invited onto her podcast.
Ange is warm, interesting, and has some seriously heavy hitting past experience. She led a large team at a Big 4 Bank during its Covid response, followed immediately by the devastating Northern NSW floods of 2022-3 - neither of which is for the fainthearted.
We explored everything from groupthink and remote work to collectives, loneliness and why I believe we’re at the beginning of a much bigger shift in how we organise work.
If you’ve been following The Collective Code for a while, this is probably the clearest (if still meandering) conversation I’ve had so far about what I’m trying to say.
There’s a short clip below, and if you’d like to hear the full conversation, you can find it here:
Thanks for having me, Mind the Grit and Ange - and have a lovely weekend, everyone!
